What do all the letters mean after a dog's name? Such as CD, CGC, TDI?

CD Stands for "Companion Dog". More information about that and general obedience information can be found here.
CGC Stands for "Canine Good Citizen". This is a set of tests that a dog passes that proves that s/he can be well-behaved in a public setting. More information here.
TDI Stands for "Therapy Dog". These are the dogs that are trained to visit in school and hospital settings. More information is available here.
What are some health concerns related to the Mastiff breed?

All breeds have different health related issues. The Mastiff is no different. But getting your dog from a breeder whose dogs are tested greatly increases the chance that you will have a happy and healthy companion for years to come. Here are some of the most common problems that need to be addressed in the Mastiff breed:

PRA or Progressive Retinal Atrophy is a degenerative disease of the retina which will ultimately lead to blindness. It is passed through on to offspring genetically. There is testing now available so that your dog can be tested BEFORE s/he is bred so you can be assured that any puppies born won't be afflicted. More information here.

Hip and Elbow Dysplasia affects many breeds. X-rays can be taken to see how well developed these areas are.

Heart OFA check to check for disease. More information here.

Eyes Cerf check after 24 months. More information here.

Some general Mastiff Health information is available here.

Do you often have puppies?

We do not breed often but puppies are available occasionally. We will update the website when a litter is born.

Give me some information on what it's like to live with a Mastiff.
Mastiffs are not "outside chained to the dog-house" dogs. They very much are integrated into your family life and want to be with you. Because they develop such strong "people" bonds it is not recommended to have a Mastiff if you don't have the time to spend with him. These are devoted animals who will reward your time by becoming more than just a pet, but a friend and family member. Mastiffs are BIG! The females can average 125-175 pounds while the males can range from 175 to well over 200. The largest Mastiff ever was 343 pounds! (named Zorba de la-Susa) While their size might seem intimidating, well-bred and well-socialized Mastiffs are gentle souls who will prefer curling up on the couch to tearing off around outside for hours at a time. They are playful but sweet and make wonderful pets for families with kind children. Mastiffs do drool, so if you must keep a perfectly clean house at all times this may not be the breed for you. But a couple towels in designated areas are helpful in being handy to wipe your pal off before he can "shake"!

For people wanting a large yet gentle dog to incorporate into their family the Mastiff is truly an outstanding choice.
